Future action-adventure title Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was created by Respawn Entertainment and released by Electronic Arts. On April 28, 2023, it will be available for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S as a follow-up to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019).
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's gameplay keeps many of the aspects from its predecessor while adding new ones. According to game director Stig Asmussen, Cal Kestis has access to five "completely realized" positions in the game's lightsaber fighting. Although the extraordinary dual-wield single blade assault from Fallen Order is developed into its own fully playable lightsaber stance. the single blade and double blade lightsaber stances are carried over from Fallen Order. The addition of a brand-new, heavier crossguard lightsaber stance in the manner of Kylo Ren necessitates greater confidence to utilize owing to its extended time windows for deflecting opposing assaults. Asmussen claims that the player will "find out what the best weapon of choice is" by using these various postures to face various enemy kinds. The player may freeze adversaries and blaster bolts in midair with a brand-new Force stasis ability, similar to the one Kylo Ren used in The Force Awakens.
Story
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and focuses on Jedi Knight Cal Kestis' battle to outwit the hostile Galactic Empire and stop them from annihilating the last Order 66 survivors. A mysterious Pau'an Imperial senator who strikes a risky agreement is one of his most recent foes.
Development
In January 2022, it was revealed that Jedi: Fallen Order will have a sequel. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the name of the game, which was unveiled in May 2022 during Star Wars Celebration along with the release of a CGI teaser film. Respawn Entertainment is creating the game, which is slated for release on April 28, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
Real-time ray tracing, among other next-gen features, according to Stig Asmussen, allows Respawn to function "at a quality that's way beyond anything that we've ever done before." Survivor will benefit from noticeably quicker load times with a development team that no longer needs to support the older PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms the original game released on by focusing only on ninth-generation devices. This is because the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles include solid state drives (SSDs), which allow substantially quicker asset loading speeds than a hard disk.
Marketing and publication
In May 2022, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's first cinematic teaser was made public. On December 8, EA said that the game will be published on March 17, 2023, while also showcasing additional gameplay for it. To allow the Respawn development team to complete any last-minute "bug patches to boost performance, stability, polish, and most importantly, the user experience," EA announced on January 31, 2023, through Twitter that the game's release will be postponed until April 28, 2023. IGN published a nine-minute gameplay video on February 7.
Three cosmetic sets are included with the game's pre-order. The first is a "Hermit" cosmetic set that replicates Obi Wan Kenobi's costume from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and Kenobi's lightsaber from Episodes I and II. It is available with a pre-order of both the regular and deluxe versions. The two rare "Scoundrel" and "Rebel Hero" cosmetic sets included with the deluxe version are exact replicas of Luke Skywalker's yellow jacket costume from A New Hope and Han Solo's DL-44 blaster and scoundrel outfit from Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Media ties-in
Sam Maggs' tie-in book, Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars, which is to be released on March 7, 2023, will fill in the five-year narrative gap between Fallen Order and Survivor. On December 1, 2022, the book's cover was unveiled, showcasing a cast of Fallen Order characters that included Cere Junda, Greez Dritus, Nightsister Merrin, and BD-1. It was announced that The Inquistor Fifth Brother, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the television series Star Wars Rebels, will make an appearance. On January 31, 2023, a sample chapter from the novel was published in which Cal Kestis is forced to infiltrate the covert headquarters of the Haxion Brood criminal organization that appeared in Fallen Order.
