After the indictment by a Manhattan grand jury, Trump will be arraigned on Tuesday: constant updates
Donald Trump is now the first president — current or former — to ever be charged with a felony after a New York grand jury looking into his role in a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels voted to indict him, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced on Thursday.
According to New York court officials, Trump, who is currently at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, is scheduled to be charged in Manhattan criminal court on Tuesday.
Trump's attorney: He'll enter a not-guilty plea.
The former president will enter a not guilty plea when he is arraigned in New York next week, according to Trump's attorney Susan Necheles, according to Reuters. When questioned about the specifics of his surrender, she opted not to answer.
Joe Tacopina, a different Trump lawyer, maintained his client's expectation that he wouldn't be shackled but acknowledged that his client would probably be fingerprinted and go through other standard procedures.
Tacopina remarked, "I don't know how all this is going to play out. There is no textbook that outlines how to charge a former US president with a crime.
